Whats with the big boom?

Post by NemoRanger » Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:05 pm

This morning at 7am I was in front of the castle when I saw a bunch of managers standing around looking at it. Curiosity peaked and I stopped and stared at the castle to figure out what they where looking at.

Just when I was about to give up and go ask them. I heard a huge

BOOM!!!

No fireworks, just some smoke. Obviously they were testing something.. I can only guess that it must be for the fourth of July. Is this common? I have never been near MK on the fourth.

I asked around and nobody had a clue what they were up to. All I got from the manager is they were doing some testing.

On a side note. I have no doubt some guest called 911 thinking there was some terrible explosion at MK. It was crazy loud but super cool. I hope they do more testing while I am there.

Maybe they were setting off some misfired pyrotechnics from yesterday? Was it from the front or back of the castle? The ground or the roofs?

Wondered what that was this morning. Probably pyro issues or testing.

Concussion morters most likely. 99% noise, very little visual. And usually fired from withing a "bomb tank" or steel box with an open top to contain any shrapnel should the morter suffer a catastrophic failure. Back in the days of WWF, they used to put several of these under the ring. Timed with one of those flying leaps off the top ropes, it made for some pretty impressive body slams !
