Well, it seems things are starting to look up. Yesterday at church, we broke up into groups for prayer, and I asked for prayer to get out of the shelter--and for a cat. The couple I was praying with said, "We have a room available." :rocker:
About once or twice a year I go on Petfinders to get my "kitty fix", and found a beautiful kitty who, due to vitiglio, has a coat that looks like the starry night sky. His name is Thackery Dax--who thought up THAT name?--but if I get him, I'm changing it to Orion. He was found hungry and scared in a Las Vegas apartment, where he had been left behind when his former owners moved out. He's now in a cat rescue in Burbank. I'm going to email the rescue today to see how much the adoption fee is, etc..
EDIT--Actually it was Thackery Binx.

Just checkin' in. How is everybody? Bedbugs are making a comeback--likely from the men's area--but not as bad as before, so far. I got more bedbug spray. Those of you affected by the hurricanes, how you making out? Seventeen days left in the hurricane season, with the possibility of another Atlantic storm. Hope it doesn't develop, or if it does, it stays away from land. Here on the West Coast, we got swiped by Sergio--which resulted in a spectacular thunderstorm and much-needed rain.

The California fires are making the news up in Canada. Is the smoke reaching down into your neck of the woods?
2 years ago the smoke from the canadian fires resulted in a visit to Seattle from which we never did see Mt Ranier.

Well, last week the moon turned an orangish-yellow color, and we did get a whiff of the smell of smoke. But other than that, it's mostly being blown out to sea. What's tragic is so many people died in the Camp fire up north, and they could've survived had they taken evacuation warnings seriously. All were found burned to death in their cars. In the Woolsey fire, only 2 deaths have been reported.

A friend's daughter lost her home to the last big Malibu fire over ten years ago. It took years to get a permit from the city to rebuild.

When the Woolsey fire took off, her husband determined they weren't going through the process again so he stayed to fight it out. He kept the hose running and their home survived.

Just talked to a friend who arrived yesterday from the Bay Area. He said they were in smoke from Redding to Ashland. We started seeing smoke from the south this morning.

And the death toll keeps mounting; when are people going to start evacuating when told? They should have a plan in advance to determine where to go, how to get there, etc., in case their customary route is cut off by fire. These people are waiting too long to leave, which is why so many are getting burned to death in their cars. And there are now more than a thousand people missing. When buying a home, one should consider how susceptible it is to fires, etc.. Here's a website I found that can tell you what hazards a place you're considering buying or where you live already are likely to affect you: www.conservation.ca.gov/cgs./pages1SH-EQZ-APP.aspx ; note that it's for California. Whether other states have a similar page or not, I don't know. When I tried this, my current place of residence had a high chance of getting whacked by an earthquake; fire was much less likely. You can also try the USGS.gov site; they provide flood data as well through a link.
