Disney is partnering to create a new Avatar-based land, starting at DAK, somewhere around 2017.

New AVATAR land coming to Disney World
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Maybe I'm just a Negative Nellie, but this sounds like a perfectly horrible idea :(

Oy Vey.
I don't know entirely how I feel about this.
It could either be amazing or go horribly wrong although I think equating it to "Cars Land" is probably not the best idea since most people don't seem overly impressed with that either.

I've got to second that!Odie wrote:Maybe I'm just a Negative Nellie, but this sounds like a perfectly horrible idea :(
While I enjoyed the movie, one thing that really stuck with me was that it was too violent for the 6-10 year old group. Imagine them asking "daddy, why can't I watch Avatar? You let me ride the attraction at animal kingdom!". Then there are those parents whose 5 year old Johnny is traumatized after seeing Avatar. Mom thought it was fine for her little snowflake, after all, there was an entire land at a Disney park based on it.
While the Indiana Jones an Pirates movies had their share of comic violence, it's not the same as that in Avatars battle scenes. Even the Star Wars films do not seem as raw as Avatar.

What the hell does Avatar have to do with DAK? I could see maybe Hollywood Studios but not DAK.
Where'd you get DAK from anyway? I see nothing in the article saying where it'll be except at WDW. The article says 2013, not 2017.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

The article on the sun sentinel said it would be in AK because of the flora and fauna. Ugh, I agree it doesn't belong there.Shorty82 wrote:What the hell does Avatar have to do with DAK? I could see maybe Hollywood Studios but not DAK.

"We believe Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a great fit for this project because it was created to give guests the opportunity to experience the worlds of animals and nature – real and mythical – in new ways. Disney’s Animal Kingdom also celebrates adventure, living in harmony with nature and environmental stewardship – themes that are deeply rooted in the story of AVATAR."

Re: New AVATAR land coming to Disney World
Will Disney ever have an original idea of their own?
EVER??????????
What do they do up there? Besides hoard money, that is.

If you ever stop and ask yourself: "How do they dress themselves?"
Congratulations and welcome to my world.
