Re: Katie the Prefect
You see? This is why cast members put up with the low pay, long hours, Excruciating Polyester Costumes Of Torment, clue-deficient management, and all the rest. Because once in a great while, we find a guest -- usually a child -- who understands what we're up to, and we get to create something magical! And for that brief moment, we get to stand in for Walt, or JK Rowlings, or any of the thousands of creative people who built the stories we work in (and some of us wish we could live in).
It's a rare treat, and happens not nearly so often as one might hope. But just like chancing upon a four-leafed clover, the CM who has the proper attitude, has prepared themselves, and who watches closely, can still find one.
The chance to make the magic I had enjoyed as a guest is what made me want to become a cast member. These bright moments are why I have stayed all these years.
Thanks Katie the Prefect, for reminding me why I wear a nametag.

And for those of us who don't work on stage at Disney or any of the other parks, don't think you can't bring a little magic to someone in your job. I imagine someone like DisneyMom routinely brings a little magic to the patients she works with.
I had the luck, because I certainly didn't plan on where I ended up at my last company and my job description never addressed what I did quite a bit of, to bring a little magic to situations that seemed unsolvable. I pulled a rabbit out of a hat for an almost fired sales rep in Houston, waved my magic twanger for a customer in Egypt, went to the Hobie Bat Cave and provided the stuff to save an account in Korea, stuff like that. I thrived on challenges and loved being able to help. I became the corporate dog robber and some called me Radar. It was great.
So remember, you don't have to be in costume to bring the magic. All it takes is a little want to.

The story of Katie the Prefect is now being circulated by Disney Management as a training tool for Disney CMs!

Did they learn about it through this board ? Wouldn't that be something if SGT postings became part of traditions !Zazu wrote:The story of Katie the Prefect is now being circulated by Disney Management as a training tool for Disney CMs!
