Guests LOVE chatting with CM's. The cool part is, they love when CM's chat with them! It makes them feel special for a few extra minutes- even if it's something as elementary as asking for a restroom, or noticing the hometown on the person's name tag is about 15 minutes from your hometown!

Re: "Here stand there, I'll take the picture"
ifound, thank you, thank you so much for this post. :) You nailed why many of us stay @ DLR, WDW, & all parks. We CAN make the Magic for a child now & then. Nothing gives a CM such a rush.ifoundnemo wrote:I was at Pirates the other day (on the clock) when a family was seeking simply an autograph from Captain Jack Sparrow. They didn't care about a meet and greet, or all the fuss of a photo, they just wanted a mere signature on a piece of paper- so much that the mother wouldn't have cared if one of us ran backstage and slapped a random autograph on a sheet of paper. The special part was that the boy who wanted the autograph wore a prosthetic leg, and had been a pirate for the previous Halloween (his grandpa constructed a real peg leg out of one of the boy's former prosthetic legs and a crutch). We of course, were amazed with the story of this boy, and his charisma, zest for life, and simply just being there, that we made the attempt. After a few minutes, we found out that we couldn't get the boy an autograph. At that point, we went into service recovery mode, and I escorted the entire party into the backstage entrance to the attraction, gave them a private tour of the ride (from the boat), and shared as much information about the ride that I could with them. They were incredibly grateful for our attempts and efforts. After getting off the ride, we discovered that entertainment managers were working on getting our little pirate an autograph. One of my managers about 5 min later emerged with a scroll that they hand out during the Pirate Tutorial Shows, signed by Captain Sparrow. At the next show, he was handpicked by Captain Sparrow to learn how to sword fight, and actually got to sword fight with Jack. We didn't get to see this (though we would have loved to) and hoped that they enjoyed our dose of magic that we helped set up for them!

AWESOME! This is why I want to be a CM, I know that at the end it is a job, but if I can do something that makes someone's day a bit better, it would be worth all of the SG's, low pay, etc. I hope you have more stories to share!ifoundnemo wrote: I was at Pirates the other day (on the clock) when a family was seeking simply an autograph from Captain Jack Sparrow. Didn't realize they still had Captain Jack at WDW, I miss seeing the back of him running away at DLR.......
Maybe he'll return in 2011 to promote Pirates 4 ;)

Our Captain Jack does a Pirate Tutorial Show about 5 times a day outside of the ride. He is also in the Boo to You Halloween Parade during the Halloween parties.DisneyMom wrote:What a great story!!!!!! :)

The only time capt. jack appears at DLR is during Halloween Time during Mickey's Trick Or Treat Party.DisneyMom wrote:What a great story!!!!!! :)

Outside of the Parks, I think that Captn. Jack appears pretty regularly on the Disney cruises.

Re: "Here stand there, I'll take the picture"
I would get slightly creeped out if someone took pictures of my kids with the characters. I refuse to take pictures of the characters when there are other kids already there....it just seems disrespectful some how. Maybe that's just me....
Reminds me of an SG mom in the Epcot Character Spot a couple years back. I had three of my kids in line...waiting as patiently as they could (it was June and it was a long line). We got up there and started to see the characters..and once we got to Minnie, this little girl came from nowhere and jumped into the pictures with my kids. I couldn't fault the photopass CM as he had no idea she wasn't one of ours...since the mom was NO WHERE to be found for a good 2-3 minutes. So...some of my photopass pictures have some other kid in them. Finally, mom comes running to get her. Where was she? Seriously..they were pretty darn organized...not sure where they even were and how she didn't know her 3 year old was missing.

Yep, I have quite a few pics. of him. I especially like the photo op on Castaway Cay with the Black Pearl in the background. It's looking really, really raggedy these days tho' (more than it's supposed to) so I don't think it will withstand any hurricanes that might come up this year.GaTechGal wrote:Outside of the Parks, I think that Captn.
