Fourth of July Monorail Incident

Post by Big Wallaby » Sun Jul 05, 2009 4:45 am

someone will post a link and info soon, but I just wanted to let you all know I am ok and was not involved. Please pray for those who were.

Glad that you are okay. I hope all our other monorail friends are as well.

It seems one of the drivers was killed in the collision. Here's a link.

Thoughts go out to all involved..

UPDATE: They had a picture of the two trains on CNN. It was Monorail Red and the other looked to be blue. The picture was kind of dark so I might be wrong about the blue one.

My husband grabbed two photos from TV that I posted here:

When he told me this morning, I was in shock. Our prayers go out to everyone involved. I can't even imagine what it's like for CMs as we're horrifed and saddened just as guests seeing this on TV.

So glad you posted to say you are ok, Wallaby. My first thought when I heard about this when I got up today was I sure hope all of our SGT Monorail friends are ok. We are at WDW now and it was on the news as soon as I turned it on. Prayers for all impacted by this.

Terrible news :(

Looks like they towed them into Concourse since pics who them at different places. Possibly happened at 209. I NEVER heard of the MAPO system failing like that.

Wow, BW. That's no good. I saw your post on my facebook when I woke up a minute ago and ran over here to find out more (I knew SGTers could be counted on for some news and commiseration about something like this). I'm glad you're okay, at least. Let us know when you're able to check on the rest of our SGTers.

This is terrible! Never heard of the MAPO system failing like this before! CNN showed a few different pics and one was over the tram lane and another with the Concourse ceiling over the trains. Looks like they towed it into Concourse.

Couldn't tell whether the other train was Orange or Pink due to the image and lighting. News is saying Pink but I don't trust their reports very much.

Glad to hear you're safe BW.

Terrible someone died. just no damn protection in that cab since it hangs over the chassis. But damn it could have been way worse. Especially if it happened a couple hours prior. Could have been a family in the cab as there usually is.
